Dream Maker Sunrise By Angelina Schneider The body of the sun has not yet breached the angled plateau of the eastern horizon Its sinewy glow has bent itself slyly around nature's curves and masses Kissing the faces of a few prominent surfaces Which seem to stand taller almost proud Honored to receive the first warm blessing the sun has to offer today The sunrise is a slow going amusement ride A lazy river at the water park Slow and unrushed the sun travels its course The rest of us stand at attention Humble paparazzi Waiting to catch a glimpse of what this most famous celebrity is wearing today Click Click Waiting with two cameras to catch the blinding orb as it crests The moment is a minute away A glance at its eastern progress is momentarily blinding The sunrise is arriving A simple blue sky A few feathery clouds Birds chirp louder in their anticipation Find their spot in the treetops It's Here!!!! The warmth is immediate Distant rock formations brought into perspective Jagged, kissed with green edges Given shape by the light of a new day This ancient game between earth and sky Land is a humble friend of the sun The sun a wise oracle Tending to itself with grace and deliberance Its only mission, its single task To shine Day after day, millennia after millennia What other planets have seen a sunrise today? How many other creatures arose to greet the day with me? What faces were illuminated with mine? Is the sun ever jealous of the moon The other wondrous orb The cold rock, puny in comparison So small earth's gravity has stopped it from spinning Domecticized the moon Moon is the equivalent of earth's lap dog Goes where we go Tethered like a leash to earth's gravity But not the sun The sun is the old bubbling toad of our universe It seems to go no where So massive is its molten flesh Even millions of miles away it can burn my own skin Earth is tethered to it Its faithful obligated companion We are codependent upon it No amount of psychotherapy or 12-step programs to cure us of our dependence This mystical drug that is the light The rays The fire The glow The life and the death of us. We worship the sun with such little reverence See it rise but a few times a year Reap its gifts daily I am blessed to be here for it's unveiling on the beautiful April morning in Sedona. (Atop the observation deck at Dream Maker Inn…) Amen (Angelina was a guest in April 2007) |
